Election Reactions

Wow.

All I can say is Wow - He did it! Obama seriously won! That's AWESOME!!

But, that's as much gloating as I'm going to do, because I remember how it felt to be on the losing side in 2000 and 2004.

Unfortunately, not everyone sees the same logic. Facebook has been filled with overwhelming joy or sadness or celebration or bitterness (with or without guns and religion

However, it shouldn't draw a divide in the relationships we have with others. We don't agree with all of our friends and family all the time, and we still treasure their loving support. This election should be no exception.

I keep trying to remind myself of that when reading all of the comments on Facebook. I feel like there is so much hate being thrown around. Mudslinging like:

Jane Doe is packin and movin to Canada! I hope you don't make TOO much $$ bc Obama is gonna tax the hell out of you and give it to those already milking the government!!
John Doe has lost faith in the intelligence of this Nation.
John Doe has no incentive to work, let others not work, and see his money go to them; bloody brilliant. I work hard for myself and no one else.

I can't say I had clean hands, either:

Travis agrees with Ashley Wadsworth - the best thing Dubya did was get people to vote for a Democrat. GO OBAMA!
I tip my hat to Senator McCain - he fought a hard fight. I think any Republican would have had an extremely uphill battle, just look at the results of the House and Senate!

We should all be proud of the fact that America turned out in record numbers to exercise their right to vote, and buck the trend of voting apathy. I think this election above all others has been a testimonial to getting people to participate in their government. And it took both sides to do it!!

Congratulations, President Barack Obama. I voted for you because I believed in the changes you proposed and the hope you inspired. It's now in your court to make that happen.

Ciao.
